Several New Faces to Debut as Shamrocks in Season Opener
2010-05-12
Several new players are expected to make their debut as Shamrocks on Friday night, including rugged defender Paul Dawson who was recently acquired from the Mann Cup champion Brampton Excelsiors and veteran scoring star Kevin Dostie who was acquired from the Nanaimo Timbermen in a trade earlier this year.
Also making his debut on Friday night is Matt Lyons, a 23 year-old right-handed forward from Orangeville, Ontario who the Shamrocks have acquired from the Barrie Lakeshores of the Ontario Major Series Lacrosse league. In two seasons of senior lacrosse, the 6' 1", 190 pound Lyons has scored 32 goals and added 30 assists for 62 points in 25 games played. In two seasons with the Boston Blazers of the National Lacrosse League, Lyons has scored 35 goals and added 45 assists for 80 points in 36 games played.
"I can't wait to get the season going," said Shamrocks general manager Chris Welch. "It's been a very busy off-season for us with putting together a new coaching staff, three major trades, a very productive draft and several out-of-province acquisitions. Now it's time to let the boys hit the floor and get rolling." Welch likes what he has seen in training camp, "Almost our full group is here already, which is unusual for us this early. You can feel a very positive, fresh atmosphere around the team, everyone is really excited to be here. I think it's going to be a really fun year."
Sure to be adding to the fun is a new team mascot who will be unveiled at Friday's game. The new mascot is going to significantly raise the off-floor entertainment value for the whole family at the nine Friday night Shamrock home games this season.
