Great Scott(s) – Rocks Miss an Opportunity
2010-06-12
The game needed one team to step up, and in the second period the Lakers made a statement. The Rocks, unfortunately, did not have a response. The Lakers scored five unanswered goals, with four coming from the stick of Scott Tinning. The Rocks narrowly outshot the Lakers in the period, 16 to 15, but could not find a way to get a ball past Lowe in the Burnaby net. Victoria was frustrated going into the second break, on the short end of a 7 to 4 scoreline. Perhaps tellingly, there were no penalties in the second period. Whatever the coaches had to say in during the second break, it had an effect on Victoria. The Rocks stepped up and had the better of the play in the final frame, outshooting the Lakers by a margin of 20 to 8. Most nights, that effort would be rewarded as that wide a shots margin usually pays off with a few goals. But, Scott Lowe held firm between the Burnaby pipes, surrendering only one goal to Duch on a rare power play. The Rocks maintain a two point lead at the top of the league table. Next game for the Rocks is another four point game against the second place New Westminster Salmonbellies. The game is also the best of three tie breaker, should Victoria and New West tie in league points. For fans, this should be a do not miss game. Be there on Friday June 18th, at Bear Mountain. Game time is 7:45.
