Back And Forth Affair With Burrards Ends In Tie
Victoria, BC ~ For the first time July 20, 2023 the Victoria Shamrocks ended a WLA Regular Season Game without a win after Friday night's 7-7 tie with the Maple Ridge Burrards at the Q Centre.
A tough first period for the Shamrocks kicked started things on the wrong foot for the home side, finding themselves down 5-2 after twenty minutes in front of a packed crowd of 2,157 at the Q Centre.
Marcus Klarich, Garret Winter and Dylan Mcintosh (3) were the Burrards goal scorers in the first. Mcintosh was impressive with an opening frame hat trick. Marshal King and Elijah Gash were Victoria's scorers in the first with Gash's tally being an impressive end to end rush.
A much better second period would follow for the 'Rocks who found their stride a bit with Kyle Pepper scoring just 14 seconds into the period. Ari Stevens got Victoria within one at 16:23 but the Burrards answered back two minutes later to restore their two goal lead. The Shamrocks got a late goal from Marshal King (19:25) to be down 6-5 heading to the third.
Marshal King got his hat trick goal 3:19 into the third to tie things up for the first time since 1-1. They would then snag their first lead less than two minutes later after a nice finish from Chris Wardle. Exactly three minutes later Maple Ridge got themselves back even thanks to Marcus Klarich to tie the game at seven a piece.
11:58 of scoreless lacrosse would follow in the third period to send the game to overtime.
Unfortunately the lacrosse gods were not kind to the 'Rocks in overtime as they rung balls of the post and crossbar repeatedly in a overtime frame that saw them outshoot Maple Ridge 9-2. No goals were to come on either side with the Shamrocks hemming the Burrards in their own zone for 3 straight minutes to finish.
Victoria continues their unbeaten streak in WLA regular season action by not losing this evening and that streak now goes to 25 games (24-0-1) during that streak that tracks back to July 20, 2023.
The Shamrocks are back in action on Thursday night from Queen's Park Arena in New Westminster when they visit the unbeaten Salmonbellies (4-0).
