Bruce Alexander Named Next Head Coach of the Shamrocks

The Victoria Shamrocks announced today that Bruce Alexander has been named as the team’s head coach, marking an exciting start to the 2026 season for the nine-time national champions.

“I’m honoured to have the opportunity to coach the Victoria Shamrocks,” said Alexander. “I started watching the team play when I was six years old – I certainly never anticipated being named Head Coach.”

“I understand it’s a big responsibility, and our fans deserve to see the team play an exciting brand of lacrosse. I’m looking forward to the challenge, and trust we can compete against the top teams in the league.”

Alexander joined the coaching staff in 2023 as video coach, then moved to the bench in 2024 as an assistant coach under then-head coach Mike Simpson, who retired following the 2025 season.

“We’re excited to be able to give Bruce this opportunity,” said General Manager Chris Welch, “he has excelled in different roles with our organization and I’m confident this will be no different. I’m grateful to him for stepping up.”

Playing for the Shamrocks from 1994 through 2003, Alexander won three Mann Cups with the club in 1997, 1999, and 2003, and accumulated 387 points in 255 games played during his WLA career. He also played in the National Lacrosse League between 1999 and 2010.

Alexander will be joined on the bench by returning assistant coach Jordan Sundher, and will be looking to fill out the rest of his coaching staff following the additional retirements after last season of Art Webster and John Hamilton.

“I’m very pleased we were able to retain Jordan Sundher,” continued Welch. “His experience in combination with Bruce’s is invaluable to the team going forward. We appreciate everything that Mike, Art, and John have done for us and they leave big shoes to fill in the coaches’ office.”

The Victoria Shamrocks will be opening their 2026 season in late May, with a full schedule to be announced by the Western Lacrosse Association in the new year. Season tickets are on sale now with all the information at VictoriaShamrocks.com.
