Shamrocks Acquire Will Johansen for Balance of Season
The Victoria Shamrocks are pleased to announce they have acquired defense/transition specialist Will Johansen for the remainder of this year.
Johansen, 26, comes to Victoria along with a first-round selection in the 2028 WLA Draft from the New Westminster Salmonbellies, who had acquired his rights from the Nanaimo Timbermen and then immediately moved them to the Shamrocks. The deal for Johansen and the draft pick cancels out the future considerations that were owed to the Shamrocks and concludes the deal that was made at the trade deadline in 2023 that saw the Shamrocks send Adrian Sorichetti to the Salmonbellies for the remainder of that year.
The 6’ 3”, 195-pound righthander is a native of Victoria. He last played in the WLA for the Nanaimo Timbermen who will see his rights return to them after this year. He plays for the Albany FireWolves in the National Lacrosse League.
“We’re very excited to add Will to our group,” said Shamrocks general manager Chris Welch. “He dominates on loose balls as well as in transition and can play shut down defense. He’s highly skilled and athletic player who has excelled everywhere he’s played, plus he’s a local guy to boot. We know he’ll be a great fit and make us stronger.”
