Shamrocks and Salmonbellies Set to Clash in WLA Semifinals
The Victoria Shamrocks fell 11-6 to the Coquitlam Adanacs on Saturday night. The loss relegated the Shamrocks to 3rd place in the WLA Standings, and a Semifinal date with the New Westminster Salmonbellies. A win over Coquitlam would have seen the Rocks clinch top spot in the standings. The loss makes the path back to the Mann Cup a much tougher challenge.
Down 7-6 after 40 minutes, the Adanacs seized the game with four unanswered goals in the final frame to earn the win and drop the Rocks to 3rd place with a record of 13-4-1 on the regular season.
New West took 2 of 3 from the Shamrocks in the regular season and finished the regular season with a record of 14-4-0, one point ahead of the Shamrocks with 28.
Falling to 3rd place cost the Shamrocks their home floor advantage in the semifinals, meaning they will start the series on the road Monday night at Queen's Park Arena.
The Salmonbellies handed the Rocks their first loss of the season back on June 12th with a 12-9 win. In the 2nd game of the season series, the Shamrocks defeated New West 6-5 at the Q Centre, and finally, in the 3rd game, the Bellies got a measure of revenge with a 12-8 win at the Q Centre in front of 2715 fans. This series promises to be intense.
