Shamrocks Announce Changes to Coaching Staff

After many years of dedicated service to the Victoria Shamrocks and the sport of lacrosse, the Victoria Shamrocks announce that head coach Mike Simpson and assistant coach Art Webster have resigned from their positions with the club. These were personal decisions and thankfully are not health related.

"First and foremost we extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Mike, Art and their families for the many years of commitment they have given to the Shamrocks organization in a variety of roles," said Shamrocks general manager Chris Welch. "The contributions each has made are significant and while they'll be greatly missed, they'll always be part of the Shamrock family."

Both Simpson and Webster served the Shamrocks for many years as players, captains, assistant coaches and head coaches.

Simpson joined the Shamrocks as a player in 1990, served as team captain from 1994 through 1997 and was a Mann Cup champion in 1997. In 2017 he rejoined the club as an assistant coach and became head coach in 2021.

Webster has spent a remarkable 35 seasons with the club. He joined as a player in 1978 and played in 16 seasons spanning four decades from the 1970's to the 2000's. He served as assistant coach for six years before becoming head coach for two years in 2008. He rejoined the club as assistant coach in 2013, a position he has held since. He is a five-time Mann Cup champion, twice as player in 1979 and 1983 and three times as an assistant coach in 2003, 2005 and 2015. He was inducted in the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2007.
