Shamrocks Battle Burrards in Finals Rematch
By Ian McNaughton
The Sunday night WLA schedule will see a rematch of last year’s 2018 finals when the Victoria Shamrocks travel to the Cam Neely Arena to battle the Maple Ridge Burrards. Last season, the Burrards beat the Shamrocks in 5 games in the WLA Finals to clinch a spot in the Mann Cup and this time around, both sides have their eyes on getting to the top.
The Shamrocks are coming off a significant 12-9 win against the Nanaimo Timbermen on Thursday night. Led by rookies Keegan Bell and Austin Madronic, the two rookies scored a combined 10 points on route to the win. Peter Dubenski made 15 saves in relief to earn the victory and gives the Shamrocks a great trio of netminders with Dubenski, Cody Hagedorn, and Aaron Bold.
Maple Ridge is coming off an impressive 8-3 road win against the Burnaby Lakers on Friday in which Burrards forward Riley Loewen had his best game of the season with 4 points. However, you can’t talk about the Burrards without mentioning Mike Mallory, who’s tied for the league lead in points with 26. He, along with Frank Scigliano, have been the MVPs for Maple Ridge and will be tied for the best record in the league if they win tonight.
