Shamrocks Continue Winning Ways in Langley
The Victoria Shamrocks started week 2 the same way they started week 1, with a win over the Langley Thunder in Langley on Wednesday night, by a final score of 11-4.
The start was similar to last Friday, with a bit of back and forth at the back of the crease, but with the game tied 3 - 3 partway through the second, the Shamrocks offense went on a tear, scoring eight almost unanswered goals through the third period while the defense and returning goaltender Chris Origlieri only allowed one. Three of those goals were rapid fire in the span of two-and-a-half-minutes in the third period, with Koen Block and Denton Macdonald scoring the Shamrocks ninth and tenth goals just six seconds apart.
Tonight also saw the season debut of Shamrocks’ Captain Marshal King, who contributed two goals and three assists to the victory. Additional goals were put on the board by Chris Wardle (1), Zach Manns (1), Patrick Dodds (2), Denton Macdonald (2), and Koen Block (2).
The penalty box doors got a bit more of a workout than they did last Friday, but the Shamrocks took advantage of the power play, scoring three of their eleven goals with the extra man. The physicality began to escalate late in the third period, as the Shamrocks’ Grayson Peskett and Langley’s Dante Kulas picked up offsetting minor penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct, and Langley earned a bench game misconduct for their troubles in the last three minutes of the game.
The three stars for tonight’s game, all from Victoria, were Patrick Dodds (2G, 2A), Chris Origlieri (41/45 SV), and Marshal King (2G, 3A).
The two teams will meet again on Friday, May 29th back at The Q Centre. The 2-0 Shamrocks will play host to the 0-3 Thunder, with face off at 6:30pm. Tickets are available online at VictoriaShamrocks.com or at the Shamrocks Team Store at The Q Centre.
