Shamrocks Look to Extend Streak to Three Against Thunder

The Victoria Shamrocks (2-0-0) are coming back home to The Q Centre tonight looking to continue their winning streak against the Langley Thunder (0-3-0) in the second part of this home-and-away double-header. The Shamrocks defeated the Langley team 11-4 Wednesday to start their season with a pair of wins.

Head coach Bruce Alexander is happy with what he is seeing from his team to start the season. “It’s fun right now with a good vibe with a super local group of players who understand the culture of the Shamrocks,” he said in an interview with the Times Colonist yesterday.

The Shamrocks have the advantage in goaltending going into tonight’s game, with the tandem of Chris Origlieri and Adam Bland combining in the two wins for 62 saves and a 4.00 goals-against average. Keegan Okino has been minding the pipes for Langley so far this year, and has accumulated a 9.78 goals-against average, which is good news for the Shamrocks’ hard-hitting offence.

The club has five players with five or more points: Dodds (7), Manns (7), King (5), Macdonald (5), and Pickup (5), and the team as a whole has averaged ten goals a game with a +12 goal differential in the first two contests. The defence is playing its part too, holding opposing teams to limited quality shots, and successfully killing 63% of penalties.

Both teams are coming into tonight’s matchup with something to prove, and it should be another exciting night of fast-paced lacrosse at The Q Centre. Tickets are still available at VictoriaShamrocks.com or at the door. It all starts tonight at 6:30 pm.
