Shamrocks Overwhelm Lakers 15-3 at The Q Centre
The Victoria Shamrocks put on an offensive clinic Saturday night, downing the Burnaby Lakers 15-3 in front of 2,314 fans at The Q Centre.
Victoria wasted no time setting the tone, scoring six unanswered goals in the opening frame. Zach Manns got things going just 2:12 into the game off feeds from Kyle Pepper and Patrick Dodds. He struck again at 4:32, this time with Victoria's goalie pulled for an extra attacker during a delayed penalty on Burnaby, before completing his first-period hat trick at 12:27. Nate Wade, Brodie Wade and Elijah Gash also found the back of the net for Victoria in the first, with Gash's marker coming unassisted. Jake Young provided Burnaby's lone response of the period. The Shamrocks carried a commanding 6-1 lead into the second.
Victoria kept its foot on the gas in the middle frame, adding four more goals to push the lead further out of reach. Chris Wardle scored twice, including one on the power play, while Brodie Wade added his second of the night with the man advantage. Nick Chaykowsky also chipped in for the Shamrocks. Alex Cartwright scored his first of the night for the Lakers late in the period, but Victoria still took a 10-2 cushion into the third.
The third period was more of the same, as Koen Block, Kyle Pepper, Cole Pickup and Patrick Dodds all lit the lamp for Victoria. Jake Young scored his second of the night for Burnaby, but Manns capped his big night with his fourth goal of the game at 18:41 to make it 15-3, which stood as the final score.
Manns finished the night with four goals and three assists for seven points, while Brodie Wade matched him point for point with two goals and five helpers. Frank Scigliano was rock solid between the pipes, turning aside 38 of 41 Lakers shots.
