Shamrocks Protect Two for 2026 Draft
Victoria - The Shamrocks, along with the rest of the Western Lacrosse Association, have announced their territorial protection picks in advance of this year's Graduating Junior Player Draft on January 29th.
The Shamrocks have elected to protect two players from the Junior Shamrocks, Grayson Peskett and Koen Block.
Peskett, a 6' 2", 210lb left-handed defence player, was the team captain of the 2025 Junior Shamrocks and named the Top Defensive Player by the club for last season. Block is a 6' 1", 185lb left-handed offence player and was assistant captain of last season's Junior Shamrocks squad, scoring 58 goals and contributing 93 assists in his three-year Junior A playing career.
Of the picks, Junior Shamrocks head coach Dave Bremner said, "Grayson is a great pick who will become a solid player for the senior team for many years to come. He’s a rugged, aggressive defensive player who understands the concept on team defense and can pitch in with goals in transition. I’m not sure he truly knows yet how good he can become."
"Koen is a highly skilled playmaker with a tireless work ethic that helps lead his teammates. He consistently does a lot of the behind the scenes stuff and always brings a positive attitude. A very solid pick who is highly motivated to take his game to the next level."
Teams are given the opportunity to protect up to two players each draft year, and the Shamrocks are entitled to protect players who played in Junior A for the Junior Shamrocks. If teams elect not to protect players, they receive additional draft picks in the early rounds of the draft
The Graduating Junior Player Draft takes place virtually on January 29th and can be watched live at WLALacrosse.com.Season tickets are on sale now for the 2026 season, and the schedule is set to be released by the WLA in early February.
