Shamrocks Unbeaten Streak Ends At 25 Games
New Westminster, BC ~ The New Westminster Salmonbellies put an end to the Victoria Shamrocks unbeaten streak on Thursday night at Queen's Park Arena with a 12-9 victory.
A high scoring first period saw New West leading 6-5 at the first break on goals from; Mitch Jones (2), Noah Armitage, Logan Schuss, Adam Weidemann and Haiden Dickson. Victoria's five tallies came by way of; Marshal King, Clarke Pettersson (2), Cole Pickup and Andrew Kew.
In the second the 'Bellies lead by three (8-5) after two unanswered in the first two minutes from Widemann and Dickson. Victoria, however, added two unanswered of their own before the second stoppage in time with Brodie Wade and Cole Pickup netting goals to make it a 8-7 Salmonbellies advantage after 40 minutes.
A third period would follow that would see the home side outscore the visitors 4-2 and end the game at 12-9. Victoria did come close with the two teams exchanging two goals each in the first five minutes of the period (Kew twice for the Shamrocks and Schuss twice for the Bellies) but the Rocks would be held scoreless in the final 15 minutes. Jacob Ruest and Mitch Jones hatrick sealed the deal for the Salmonbellies with under four minutes remaining on the game clock.
Victoria's unprecedented winning streak ended last Friday at home in a 7-7 time with Maple Ridge at 24 games and tonight saw their 25 game unbeaten streak come to a close. Those streaks both being far and away WLA league records.
Victoria is back in action on Sunday late afternoon for a 5:00 ball drop against the Nanaimo Timbermen. It is a father's day special evening that will see the team host a tailgate party, in collaboration with Hoyne Brewing, before the game.
