Top offensive player, Rob Hellyer joins Victoria Shamrocks

The Victoria Shamrocks are excited to announce they have acquired Rob Hellyer from the Oakville Rock of the Ontario Major Series Lacrosse league for the 2018 Western Lacrosse Association season.  

Hellyer, a 25-year old native of Lion’s Head, Ontario, is one of the top offensive players in lacrosse today. The 5’8” 180-pound righthander currently sits in sixth place in National Lacrosse League scoring where he has 30 goals and 57 assists for 87 points in 17 games played with the Toronto Rock. In 89 career games with the Rock, Hellyer has scored 154 goals and added 272 assists for 426 points. He won an NLL championship with Toronto in his rookie season in 2011 and his first NLL goal was so spectacular, it was the TSN SportsCentre Highlight of the Night. 

He is a product of the lacrosse factory in Orangeville, Ontario where played four years of Junior A with Northmen, putting up 449 points in 122 games and leading them to a Minto Cup in 2012. In the Major Series with Oakville, Hellyer has put up 145 points in 44 games played.

“Rob is an elite player who we’ve been admiring for a long time,” said Shamrocks General Manager Chris Welch. “He’s dynamic, highly skilled, knows no fear and is a very creative playmaker. We’re thrilled to welcome him to Victoria.”

Hellyer is excited to be joining the Shamrocks. “I’ve heard nothing but great things about the organization from current and past players,” he said. “To get the opportunity to play for a franchise like Victoria and have a great shot at the Mann Cup is something that really excites me. I can’t wait to get out there and help the team make a great run.” 

Main Camp practices start Monday April 30  and Wednesday May 2ndat The Q Centre from 6pm-8pm and continue on Mondays and Wednesdays until the 1stgame on May 25th.
