Burnaby Lakers 10 vs Victoria Shamrocks 8 Game Recap
Shamrocks lead playoff series three games to one heading back to Victoria
By Janice Huckin
In what has been a relatively tame game in the series, the Burnaby Lakers live to play another day, coming out with a 10-8 win on their home floor over the Shamrocks Sunday night. The Rocks lead the series 3 games to one and return to Victoria for game five.
The Lakers held period leads of 3-1 and 7-4, but the Shamrocks got back within a goal late in the third period with a flurry of 3 goals in 3 minutes before the Lakers ended it with a goal from Josh Byrne with 32 seconds left.
The Shamrocks were missing some players and Jr. ‘A’ call-ups Marshall King and Braylon Lumb stepped in and did a good job. Rhys Duch led the Shamrocks with 3 goals and 2 assists to earn second star honours. Corey Small had a goal and 5 helpers for a 6-point night. Call-up Braylon Lumb had a pair of goals and 2 assists while his Jr. ‘A’ teammate Marshal King had a goal and 1 assist. Jeff Shattler chipped in 3 assists and Chris Wardle had the other Victoria goal.
Josh Byrne had the hat trick and 2 assists for the Lakers and was named the game’s first star. Goaltender Zak Boychuk made 39 saves to get the win and earned third star honours.
The series returns to the Q Centre Wednesday, August 17. Start time returns to its regular 7:45 pm slot. Fans can get tickets at our extended office hours by calling 250-478-7625 or at victoriashamrocks.com.
