Game Recap

The Shamrocks had a chance to grab a share of first place in the WLA when they took on the New Westminster Salmonbellies at the Q Centre on Friday night. The Shamrocks were unable to overcome a slow start, and ended up dropping this game 12-9.

The first period started with both teams trading goals early. Ian McShane tallied both goals for the Shamrocks, and the score was tied at 2-2 with four minutes to play in the first period. The Salmonbellies took over as the first was winding down, and tallied three goals in succession to make it 5-2 at the end of the period.

The Shamrocks responded in the second on quick goals from Chris Wardle and Paul Brebber, to draw the home team to within one. After trading goals once again, Jeff Shattler and Corey Small tied the game.  As the second period came to a close, the Salmonbellies had another surge, and goals from Johnny Pearson and Dane Sorensen made it a 9-7 game heading into the third.

New West’s momentum would carry into the third, and they extended the lead to four, halfway through the third period. The Shamrocks had a late surge with goals coming from Corey Conway and Tyler Burton, but it was too late. Justin Goodwin added an empty net goal for the Salmonbellies, and the game ended 12-9.

Despite the loss, the Shamrocks remain in second place in the WLA with a 6-3 record, one point behind the Maple Ridge Burrards. With the win, the Salmonbellies clinched the season series against the Shamrocks, and now sit just four points out of first place.

The Shamrocks’ next game is Wednesday July 6 on the road against the Langley Thunder.  Two days later the team returns home to the Q Centre for a matchup against the Coquitlam Adanacs for Schools out for Summer night, where kids get in with the voucher they received from their school.
