Shamrocks Sign Rock-Solid Defender Rory Smith

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Shamrocks announced today that they will be bolstering their defensive line with the addition of Rory Smith to the roster for the 2015 season. This will be Smith’s second appearance in the Western Lacrosse Association, having played in New Westminster from 2009 to 2011 before joining the Six Nations Chiefs in 2012.

Smith, a 6’ 0” left-handed defender from Mimico, Ontario has transformed his style of play in recent years from an intimidating enforcer to a defender who has earned respect with ability and agility to put him squarely in the conversation as one of the Elite defenders in the game of Lacrosse.

Smith brings a wealth of playoff and championship experience to a club that is clearly gunning for gold this summer. In 6 seasons of senior lacrosse, the 28 year-old has played in 4 Mann Cup championships, winning twice.

“I am excited for the addition of Rory Smith” said Shamrocks Assistant Coach Art Webster “For what he does - he is the best in the Game, he makes people accountable on the floor and he is a defender who knows how to get the job done” Webster coaches Smith in the winter and has had a chance to get to know Rory well “He comes to play every night, he is definition of a Warrior” Webster added.

Smith comes to Victoria via a trade with New Westminster in 2013, where Victoria sent Chet Koneczny and a conditional 2016 1st Round draft pick to the mainland team in exchange for the Western rights to Smith and a 2014 2nd Round draft pick (which was then used to acquire the playing rights to Jon Harnett from Coquitlam).

His Canadian rights were acquired as part of the transfer of Jeff Shattler to Six Nations last year.
