Victoria, BC– The Victoria Shamrocks suffered their fifth loss of the season as they fell short to the Langley Thunder 13-12. In a back-and-forth affair, Marshal King led the way with three goals and four assists.
The first period started with an early goal from Jesse King, followed by a quick two-goal run from Chris Wardle and Jake Foster putting the Shamrocks up 3-0. The Shamrock's defenders finished out the period with a shorthanded goal of their own coming from Dallas Wade, making it a 4-1 game at the end of one.
The Thunder started to crawl back in the second period, with a back-and-forth effort from both teams. The Shamrocks struggled to stay out of the penalty box, so Langley went on a three-goal run, making this a tie ball game at 4-4. The Shamrocks eventually got a powerplay of their own, and Marshal King put his first of the night past Steve Fryer to regain the lead. The Thunder weren’t giving up as Maas got the equalizer to tie this game at five. Marshal King had the hot hand scoring his second of the night, but Langley again had the quick answer tying it right back up. The Shamrocks were able to put one final goal away, as Liam Phillips got his first on a breakaway putting the Rocks up 7-6 heading into the final frame.
The back-and-forth trend continued in the third, as the Thunder tied things right back up in the opening 30 seconds. Marshal got his hattrick goal to retake the lead, but the Thunder were not standing down. Tied once more, the Shamrocks started to pull away as Jackson Nishimura put the Rock’s eleventh goal past Fryer. Immediately following, Steve Priolo put away his first of the summer right off the face-off, giving the Shamrocks their first two-goal lead since the first period. The Thunder fought all the way back scoring three in a row, giving Langley their first lead of the night. With the late run by the Thunder, Langley took home a win of 13-12.
