Western Lacrosse Association Releases Playoff Schedule

Burnaby, BC – The Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) has finalized the schedule for the 2024 Playoffs, with the eventual winner traveling to Ontario to compete for the 2024 Mann Cup Canadian Sr. A Championship.

The Shamrocks, Burrards, Thunder, and Salmonbellies have locked down playoff positions and get set for their round one, best-of-five semi-final matchups beginning Tuesday August 6th.

The Victoria Shamrocks closed their season with an 11 - 5 win over the New Westminster Salmonbellies at Queens Park Arena, and finish the regular season in first place, undefeated with 18 wins and 0 losses, and will face the Salmonbellies who finished in fourth place with a record of 8 wins and 10 losses. The second place Maple Ridge Burrards (9 wins & 9 losses) will take on the Langley Thunder (8 wins, 9 losses, and 1 tie) who finished in third.

The winners of each best-of-five semi-final series will advance to the WLA finals, a best-of-seven series to determine the WLA Champion. The WLA Champion will advance to the Mann Cup Championship against the eventual Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) champion from Ontario starting on Friday, September 6th.

Of note, playoff overtime rules are in effect, meaning if a game is tied after regulation time, there will be a two-minute break, followed by a ten-minute overtime period.  If the game is still tied, there will be a five-minute intermission, followed by a twenty-minute sudden death overtime period.

The Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) is an amateur league of men’s Senior A box lacrosse sanctioned by the Canadian Lacrosse Association. It consists of seven teams, based in cities throughout southwestern British Columbia. Each year, the playoff teams battle for the right to compete against the Major Series Lacrosse champion for the Mann Cup every September. The championship is hosted alternately between Ontario and British Columbia every year.
